The Blue Ridge Marathon 2021 - Join the Fun From VIRTUALLY Anywhere!

The Roanoke Star - Image

My family has spent time traveling to the Roanoke area for years which is part of the reason I was so excited to have the opportunity to run the Blue Ridge Marathon weekend this year with my BibRave friends.  Roanoke is a gorgeous area filled with a small town feel, big city attractions, and gorgeous scenery.  But if running in the Blue Ridge Mountains sounds a bit intimidating, you'll be happy to know that this year runners can sign up for both in person AND virtual race options.

Disclaimer: I received a free entry to the Blue Ridge Marathon 10K as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!

Whether you sign up to run in person or virtually, runners will have the option to choose between 10K, 13.1, 26.2, or the Double Marathon.  Yeah - you read that right.  There are people out there crazy enough to run two marathons. . .back-to-back. . .in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Race day is Saturday, April 17th so mark your calendars now!  Regardless of the race distance you choose, you can use my discount code BIBRAVE20 to save 20% off your registration.

I'll be running this race virtually which also means I'll be keeping my distance to the 10K.  I'm a runner that thrives on the crowd and atmosphere to keep me motivated when running so my virtual races are typically the 10K distance or less for me.  Information on the Blue Ridge Marathon website also gives runners any time in the month of April to run their race and submit results.  On their virtual race page, they do have details about how you can run the actual course if you are in the Roanoke area another day besides race day OR some guidelines about elevation gain for different race distances if you're running closer to your own home.  I love the details on their site about getting ready for the virtual race!  Runners choosing to run virtually will have their shirts and medals mailed to them after the April 30th race deadline.

If you are planning to run the race in person, please stay tuned to the race website at for the latest safety and scheduling updates.  I'm also happy to put my travel knowledge of Roanoke to your benefit with this oldie, but goodie post of family friendly activities to do in the Roanoke area.  And if you are traveling for the race and wondering what hotel stays are like in the COVID-era, you can check out my experience at a Hampton Inn this past summer.

I can't wait to share more updates and details with you as the race date draws nearer!  Be sure to follow me @lightscameramom on Twitter and Instagram for the latest updates and, of course, keep checking in back here.
